Merve Hickok joins CIT Henkaku Center


Merve Hickok is joining CIT – Henkaku Center (The Center for Radical Transformation at the Chiba Institute of Technology) as a Visiting Researcher on AI. Merve is the President at Center for AI & Digital Policy, providing expertise in global AI policy and regulations across the U.S. federal government, European Commission, UNESCO, the Council of Europe, OECD, and United Nations.

Her work focuses on the impact of AI systems on individuals and society – with a particular focus on fundamental rights, democratic values, and public sector use of AI. She has written extensively on AI policy and governance in her book, leading journals and other publications.

Merve will visit Japan to conduct interviews and meetings with AI policymakers and researchers. She is a Council on Foreign Relations – Hitachi International Affairs Fellow, researching Japan’s approach to AI policy and governance, and understanding the cultural, geopolitical, and social priorities shaping Japan’s perspective. She aims to strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation between Japan and the U.S.

Merve is excited to collaborate with CIT – Henkaku Center to create new insights and return it to society.
